Ebonite Announces Partnership With Folds Of Honor Foundation
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Responding to the call to honor American servicemen and women, the Ebonite brand is partnering with Folds of Honor Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships for the families of military members who have been killed or wounded in service to our country. Ebonite kick-started the relationship at International Bowl Expo with a $10,000 donation and announced plans to create special Folds of Honor bowling products and to help lead the charge for Patriot Bowling Day, currently in the planning stages for early 2014.
“Bowlers are fiercely patriotic and passionate about honoring our troops and, as one of the oldest bowling companies in America, Ebonite wants to ensure their legacy is not left behind,” said Ed Gallagher, Ebonite brand manager. “We stand with Folds of Honor and we’re inviting the bowling community to join us.”
Ebonite and Folds of Honor first worked together in early 2013 to promote the first ever Patriot Bowling Cup held during the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. Raising more than $50,000 for Folds of Honor, country music stars Lee Brice, Craig Morgan, Morgan Frazier, Parmalee, Ray Scott, Jared Ashley and outdoor personality Laura Schara hit the lanes at The Orleans Hotel and Casino. The celebrities, along with Folds of Honor scholarship recipients, served as team captains of sponsored teams.
“Ebonite was thrilled to participate at this inaugural event, meet the founders of Folds of Honor and especially the scholarship recipients who were sharing their personal stories and those of their loved ones,” said Gallagher. “You don’t meet these incredible people and not get involved. Their mission is inspiring and it empowered all of us that we can really make a difference by using the sport we love to Bowl It Forward.”
Since 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 3,800 immediate and future-use educational scholarships. There are more than one million dependents of fallen and wounded military service men and women from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts alone and 87 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Events including Patriot Bowling Day, Patriot Range Day and Patriot Golf Day, held annually at golf courses across the nation over Labor Day weekend, have raised more than $25 million since 2007.
About the Folds of Honor Foundation
Folds of Honor Foundation was founded in May 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 Fighter Pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, PGA Professional and USGA member. A decorated military pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, Major Rooney has served three combat tours in Iraq. It was after his second tour, while a passenger on a commercial flight, that Major Rooney witnessed an event that would profoundly change his life. As the plane landed, the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an American hero on board – Corporal Brock Bucklin. And his twin brother, Corporal Brad Bucklin, is accompanying him home from Iraq. As a sign of respect, please remain seated while Corporal Bucklin’s family receives him in his final homecoming.” Major Rooney watched through the window of the plane as the flag-draped casket was lowered. He saw a family waiting for Brock, and a little four-year old boy waiting for his father. This tragic homecoming inspired Major Rooney to create the Folds of Honor Foundation.
