Amleto Monacelli masters August IBMA Bowler of the Month
Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela has been selected as the August 2015 Kegel Bowler of The Month by the International Bowling Media Association.
Monacelli defeated Pete Weber, St. Ann, Missouri, for the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters, 192-190 and 254-243 in a double-elimination rolloff. Monacelli (pictured with the tophy) conquered the elimination bracket and needed to twice defeat Weber, winner of the winner's bracket.
The opening match of the five-man stepladder saw 1987 USBC Masters champ and fourth-seeded Rick Steelsmith, Wichita, Kansas, bested fifth-seeded Walter Ray Williams, Jr., Oxford, Florida, 217-186. Third-seeded Monacelli ground out a 179-173 win over Steelsmith, followed by a 238-204 win over second-seeded Brian Voss, Centennial, Colorado.
Monacelli finished the fifteen-game qualifying rounds in second place averaging 228. Weber led qualifying with a 233 average.
After winning his first three matches, Monacelli suffered a 607-601 loss to new USBC Hall of Famer Sam Lantto. By winning his next two matches in the elimination bracket, then the four-man match for the last three spots in the stepladder final, Monacelli settled into the third seed.
